If you were to tell someone one thing about Outpost, it would be...
...that Outpost is a fun safe and amazing place to spend your summer!! It is kind of one of those things that is better in person. Trying to explain things makes people confused. It is somewhere no matter who you are you can be a star and everybody always makes new friends and memories that will last a lifetime!! I know from experience.
I like the Watermelon Throwdown because...
...It was the best 2 minutes of working at Outpost not only because it was the first time where I was allowed to play and not have to watch the campers (which is great) but what made it so fun was the campers. They were sitting around the pool just cheering and chanting for us to get the watermelon at the top of their lungs. Even though lower camp won last year this did not take away from how much fun it was and the campers were talking about it for the next few days and still had the excitement as if it just happened. It was fantastic!!!
The moment that made me smile was...
...On the last day of camp when we were doing the famous "starburst" activity. One of my kids at the beginning of the session was having a really hard time making friends. But during the activity when it was his turn to say the friends that he made during the session, he smiled and named two other campers and they smiled back at him! Just the way the session went - to see that he had made friends brought the biggest smile to my face.
One thing that surprised me about working with kids at camp was...
...that they will always surprise you most of the time in good ways! I remember this past summer a couple of my campers while we were in the fort looked at each other and one said "let's save the world!", so what they did everyday in the fort was make up new missions and when they completed them they would cheer like they just won a prize!! Also seeing how much fun they have playing in the mud and getting dirty - all it takes is a bucket of water and they are happy for an hour - just amazing!
I never expected...
...after one summer working at Outpost that I would change my major to Liberal Studies to become a teacher, simply because of how rewarding it was to work with kids. It is crazy to think that in three short weeks I could have influenced a child's life. To me that is a feeling that no other job can bring.
