Sara's Story

If you were to tell someone one thing about Outpost, it would be...
...that Outpost has given me the opportunity to gain lasting friendships and memories that I will forever cherish. Coming in to Outpost, I had no idea the positive impact it would make on my life. With the thorough staff training I have become more confident in my own personal teaching as well as ability to handle any situation at any given time.

My most memorable group was...
... the first group I ever had has a counselor. I was so nervous the first day, I had no idea what to expect and the kids really made it amazing. I received drawings from them and they were so excited about everything! This made me feel comfortable in my leadership skills and made me so eager to see them everyday.

The moment that made me smile was...
...Singing Junior Birdman, Baby Bumblebee and 60's Party, figuring out how to remove a coyote, listening to the funny things pre-campers would say, creating fun crafts, checking out Hermie's Magical Kingdom, getting to know the campers, and spending time with Katie!

I like Pre Camp because...
...because we get to do to the Bug Dance, make volcanoes and use glitter and paint everyday! Pre-camp is generally a child's first camp experience and it is rewarding to see their personalities come alive throughout the summer.

Something I learned about myself from working at camp is...
...I can handle any situation that is thrown at me. Whether it's capturing a bat, problem solving conflicts or dealing with a bee sting, I have the confidence and knowledge to succeed!

I never expected...
...how big of an impact Outpost Summer Camps would make on my life. When I first applied to the job 2 years ago, I had no idea that I would cry at the end of each summer. Now I count down the days till camp starts up again.

The best part about working with my peers was...
...building lifetime friendships and memories. I cannot express how grateful I am to have this second family in my life. Outpost has given me the opportunity to meet amazing, caring, accountable, and passionate individuals who I can call my friends!

One of the coolest things about working at Outpost was...
...we're kind of like celebrities. Anytime you go out wearing an Outpost shirt, know that you'll get approached and hear awesome stories about how great a camper's or family's Outpost experience was. I love hearing "oh is this counselor still there? They're awesome." It's great to hear the impact and memories we've created at Outpost!
