Welcome Letter for New Parents

Dear Parent,

We’re thankful for your interest in Outpost and eager to provide more information to help you decide if our programs are a good fit for you and your family this summer.

In our family, we have five children. Our oldest recently graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and his sister is currently in her fourth year there. We have a sophomore at University of Washington, a 7th grader at Meadowbrook Middle School, and a 4th grader at Creekside Elementary in the Poway Unified School District. Like you, we’ve been adjusting to the challenges the last few years have brought both personally and professionally and working hard to offer our quality summer camps every year.

Here are a few things we have learned in our most recent summers:

Children need summer camp more than ever before. They need to be outside. They need to be with each other. They need to run, explore, play, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company in person, every day.

They desperately need a break from their devices and screens. It’s also really nice when they don’t miss the screens, and camp pulls that off beautifully.

They need practice being with others. Sharing, taking turns, listening, going first, going last, sitting next to each other, waiting, learning, laughing, playing, and just “being.” These are all “social skills muscles”, and our kids need opportunities to build them up.

They benefit from being part of something bigger than themselves. Children flourish in a community that is positive, safe, and consistent. They need to be around accepting and helpful adults; even better, a varied group of adults who demonstrate so many different and unique ways of being a kind and fun leader.

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, children desperately want to be seen, known, and accepted. They want to be liked for real and noticed for the cool, little things that make them them. Our small, consistent camp groups make this a reality by having built-in processes to help each child feel known and liked by our hand-picked counselors who each work hard to intentionally facilitate a positive group culture and one on one connections.

We welcome your family to join ours this upcoming summer. Our children need it more than ever. Our staff are ready to “catch” your child whether they arrive excited, hesitant, or nervous.

For you as a parent deciding what to do with your child this summer: Choosing Outpost means trusting us to take care of your child, operate as safely as reasonably possible, and provide the outdoor, group-centered camp experience for which Outpost has been counted on for over twenty years.

Our website has all of the information about our programs, and we offer secure, online enrollment 24/7. We are also here to answer any questions you have, so contact us at any time. This is our family’s business, and our loyal and talented director team has been with Outpost for many years helping us create each memorable summer. We hope you will consider choosing Outpost for your child, not only for this summer but for many summers to come. We look forward to welcoming you into our camp family!
