Stuart Jones is President of Outpost Summer Camps and oversees the business and operations of the organization. He has been involved with summer camps his entire life as a camper, counselor and director, and in 2001 followed a life long dream by moving to San Diego and founding Outpost Summer Camps, which celebrates its 24th summer in 2026.
Stuart founded, worked as CEO, and exited Acorn Evaluation, Inc., a nationally-recognized consulting and education firm that served over 1000 federally funded Head Start programs nationwide, and that was acquired by the National Head Start Association in 2026 (visit Stuart’s LinkedIn page for more). Here in in San Diego, he previously worked with the San Diego County Office of Education in their First 5 San Diego Quality Preschool Initiative, the Poway Unified School District to train supervisors of their Extended Student Services (ESS) programs, and with Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego as a Senior Research Associate, supporting Health and Development initiatives for children aged 0-5 and their families countywide.
Currently, Stuart works with organizations across the world to promote camp as essential education, serving as co-founder and principal at Camp Education International.
Stuart is a graduate of UC San Diego and has a Master’s degree in Developmental Psychology. He and his wife Kelly (Outpost’s Executive Director and co-owner) live in Poway and are parents to five children aged 24, 23, 20, 14, and 11- all of whom are or have been involved in camp as campers, counselors, or both! Please read Stuart and Kelly’s welcome letter for new camp families.
