As the percentage of our camp staff who are Gen Z (born 1997-2012) nears 100%, we continue to appreciate the common qualities of our Gen Z staff.
Disclaimer: Of course, there is great variability in people within a generation, but this post focuses on the traits we’ve seen increase or decrease in our seasonal staff as a whole over the last several years.
Gen Z staff tend to:
BE COMPASSIONATE
- They are kind and accepting.
- They value empathy.
- They do not tolerate meanness or cruelty.
BE INCLUSIVE
- Diversity is their norm and is valued.
- They honor their own and others’ struggles.
BE OPEN
- Open to looking for “the good” in a person or situation
- Open to seeing something in a new way
- Open to learning
BE GOOD ROLE MODELS
- Of wholeness and complexity
- Of self-awareness and striving to improve
SEEK MEANING AND TRANSPARENCY
- They want to make a positive impact.
- They want to know an organization’s values.
- They value honesty and integrity from supervisors and peers.
It is our honor and privilege to provide meaningful and growth-filled training for our Gen Z staff as they strive to provide a positive and impactful camp experience for our campers!
