Monday March 2nd, is Dr. Seuss’ Birthday. Dr. Seuss’s Birthday is also “Read Across America Day” and 
Outpost Summer Camps would like to encourage you and your family to read your favorite Dr. Seuss book this weekend. At Outpost we will be reading amazing Dr. Seuss books such as Horton Hears a Who and Yurtle the Turtle. Our favorite Dr. Seuss book, however, is The Lorax. We are lucky enough to be based in a beautiful nature preserve, understanding how important it is to appreciate and maintain nature.
The Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve is a magnificent landscape stretching from Rancho Penasquitos to the Pacific Ocean. It encompasses natural beauty, rich resources, and a proud San Diego history. Los Penasquitos Canyon has over 500 plant species, 175 kinds of birds, and a variety of other living creatures. One of the most anticipated places Outpost campers like to hike is the waterfall. Only a few miles from camp, the hike has breathtaking views of a small waterfall cascading through volcanic rocks.
The Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve is also abundant with groves of majestic sycamore trees. These trees are truly where the magic of camp occurs. Upon entering the shade of a sycamore tree our campers are able to become immersed in nature, appreciating the cool shade, and the tranquility to create a world all their own. Campers of all ages create magical places where leaf people roam free, Jake the Giant watches out for their fort, and sunshine fairies bounce across the shadows.

Every day we teach our campers how truly special nature is and the necessity of taking care of it. Send your child to camp this summer so he or she can join in the adventure in the preserve.
